Case of the month - June 2007 - discussion
Diagnosis - Apparently benign papillary lesion and DCIS of low and intermediate grade
- The papillary lesion apears benign on the H & E sections and this is supported by the CK 5/6 immunostaining pattern
- Note the associated calc (arrow)
- Away from the papillary lesion particularly in Area 'B' there are foci of DCIS:
- Note examples of low and intermediate grade DCIS in different areas of this biopsy
- The CK 5/6 staining pattern is very different in the papillary lesion in comparison to the DCIS
- Note the calcs are associated with both benign and malignant proliferations - this point must be emphasised to the clinical team to allow them to interpret the mammograms accurately
